Hanita Lenses at ESCRS 2024: Shared Success, New Global Consensus, and the Intensity IOL

Reunión Hispanoamericana Highlights Shared Success Across Regions

In the heart of ESCRS 2024, the first ever Reunión Hispanoamericana de Usuarios Hanita Lenses provided a meaningful platform for leading ophthalmologists from Spain and Latin America to share their clinical experiences and explore future collaborations.

Reunión Hispanoamericana de Usuarios Hanita Lenses

The presentations at the Reunión covered a range of important topics. Dr. Joaquín Fernández opened the session advocating for a more evidence-based approach to IOL classification (more on this below). He was followed by Dr. José F. Alfonso, who discussed selecting the right multifocal IOLs for various patient profiles.

Dr. Gerardo Valvecchia talked about Intensity and the new gold standard in multifocal lenses, while Dr. Pablo Díaz Couchoud shared his clinical experience with Hanita’s FullRange IOL. Rounding off the event were Dr. Miguel Ángel Gil-Arnal, who spoke about his success with Intensity toric lenses, and Dr. Germán Bianchi, who presented his clinical outcomes with Intensity across 500 patients.

For those who couldn’t attend, this important event is now available to watch in full on Hanita Lenses’ website.

Revolutionizing IOL Classification:
New Global Consensus Proposed at ESCRS 2024

In an industry where innovation is key, this year’s ESCRS congress in Barcelona shook the world of cataract surgery with a bold proposition: to redefine how intraocular lenses are classified. More than just a technical move, the call for an evidence-based functional classification is a revolution in how surgeons and patients understand and choose IOLs.

Leading this new approach, Dr. Joaquín Fernández argues in an article mentioned in his ESCRS presentation that “the introduction of new industry-coined trademarks […] has created some knowledge gaps that can be challenging for surgeons to comprehend. These unfamiliar concepts have raised questions about how these novel technologies differ from their predecessors. Aside from the technological distinctions between lenses, concentrating on functional vision can assist surgeons in understanding the similarities and differences among IOLs, particularly the metrics that truly matter to patients.” 1

The idea is to replace traditional optical terms (focus) with functional terms (field) based on the functional measurement of the defocus curve. Shifting attention to how IOLs perform across various distances and conditions aims to simplify the overwhelming variety of lens options and enhance confidence in making the best choice for each patient.

Embracing this approach, Hanita’s Intensity IOL guarantees patient benefit, offering continuous vision for all distances.

Hanita Lenses’ Intensity IOL at the ESCRS 2024

As one of the key players at the ESCRS 2024, Hanita Lenses captivated attendees with its premium cataract solutions, particularly the Intensity IOL. Backed by clinical studies and real-world results, the Intensity IOL with its patented Dynamic Light Utilization (DLU) technology continues to set the gold standard for a flat defocus curve with uninterrupted vision across all distances.

At Hanita’s booth, the MedTalks series provided insights from world-renowned ophthalmologists sharing their firsthand experiences with the Intensity IOL. If you missed these lectures, you now have access to the presentations delivered by Prof. Ehud Assia, Prof. Roberto Bellucci, Dr. Germán Bianchi, and more.
