A recent study 1 led by Prof. Roberto Bellucci and colleagues has confirmed the superior performance of Hanita Lenses’ Intensity Pentafocal IOL compared to trifocal lenses in cataract surgery.
From the article: “Defocus curves of the Intensity SeeLens intraocular lens (IOL) (Hanita Lenses) and of the FineVision POD F IOL (PhysIOL) at the follow-up visit. **P < .01; *P < .05.”
Published in the Journal of Refractive Surgery, the study involved 60 patients—30 bilaterally implanted with Hanita’s Intensity IOL and 30 bilaterally implanted with the FineVision trifocal IOL (PhysIOL). Results showed that while both lenses provided similar distance and near vision, the Intensity IOL delivered significantly better intermediate vision and a flatter defocus curve.
Additionally, patients with the Intensity IOL reported fewer visual disturbances, such as halos and glare, and experienced improved overall visual comfort based on the Quality of Vision (QoV) questionnaire.
From the article: “Contrast sensitivity curves of Intensity SeeLens intraocular lens (IOL) (Hanita Lenses) and of the FineVision POD F IOL (PhysIOL) groups measured under photopic conditions. **P < .01; *P < .05.”
This real-world data reinforces the value of pentafocal technology in enhancing the quality of life for cataract patients, offering smooth, continuous, and functional vision for a wide range of day-to-day activities.
